Why Design Project Deadlines Are Important

The Value of Deadlines and Milestones is Enormous

Staying on track with projects is vital to your business. Meeting deadlines not only keeps your clientele satisfied, but can also help your employees feel accomplished – and when rewarded, appreciated. While every department of your business is likely to have deadlines to meet, among the most important ones are those tasked to your design team’s deadlines. Because of the subjective nature of the initial steps of design projects, deadline’s can feel overbearing or detrimental to the team’s work, but having deadlines adhered to keeps your entire business flowing. Let’s take a look at a few reasons that design project deadlines are important:

Design projects are often the first step in a project – Getting off on the right foot for a project is important to maintaining the energy behind that project down the road. When the design team is the first set of hands to take point on a project, the rest of your development team needs the design team’s work done before they can start theirs – what better way to keep your employees engaged with a project than to keep them working on it?

Your clients like to see progress – Even when backend work is being completed at record pace, clients are often not savvy with what that progress looks like. Having design tasks spread out across the length of a project can help keep your clientele satisfied with the pace of your work, even if those design tasks are relatively low-priority or impact in the grand scheme of the project.

Deadlines provide you opportunities to engage with the team – Finding chances to connect with your employees and discuss the workload for a project is important to keeping your staff satisfied and your projects within a realistic timeframe. For projects which are especially busy for the design team, having deadlines can provide employees with an opportunity to report that certain work is delayed or ahead of schedule – allowing you to adjust deadlines on the client’s side if necessary.

Deadlines help you better gauge the lengths of projects moving forward – Building consistency across your business benefits everyone. If you have previously not utilized deadlines for your design team, implementing them will help you better understand how long certain types of projects will take your designers. If you notice that deadlines are being beaten regularly, you can speed up deadlines for that type of project in the future – after consulting with your design team to ensure that they’re ready for that change.

Ultimately, design assignments kickstart progress on projects for most other departments – don’t let other aspects of your projects fall behind because you’re waiting for the design team’s work to be completed. Sticking to deadlines helps keep your business successful and growing by improving workflow from employee to client and will undoubtedly improve the efficiency of your staff.
