MMDC Celebrates the Lasting Impact of President Carter’s Dedication to Habitat for Humanity

For decades, Habitat for Humanity has been synonymous with building hope, homes, and brighter futures for families in need. This January, MMDC proudly supports Habitat for Humanity as part of our monthly giving initiative, honoring the legacy of President Jimmy Carter, whose tireless work with the charity inspired generations to make a difference.

Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing to families who lack safe and secure shelter. By partnering with volunteers, donors, and future homeowners, Habitat helps people break the cycle of poverty through the stability and dignity of homeownership.

Habitat’s mission extends beyond building houses; it builds strength, self-reliance, and hope. Habitat’s work creates a lasting positive impact, from constructing homes to providing financial literacy education. The organization has served more than 46 million people across 70 countries.

Few individuals embodied the spirit of giving back quite like President Jimmy Carter. Alongside his wife Rosalynn, Carter spent over 30 years championing Habitat for Humanity. Their unwavering commitment saw them personally build and repair thousands of homes around the world, helping Habitat grow into a global force for change.

Even in his 90s, President Carter still showed up at construction sites, hammer in hand, proving that age is no obstacle to making an impact. His hands-on dedication wasn’t just symbolic; it sent a powerful message about giving time, effort, and resources to support those in need.

After President Carter’s passing, his legacy with Habitat serves as a reminder of the profound difference one person- or organization- can make.

At MMDC, community impact lies at the heart of its mission. By supporting Habitat for Humanity, MMDC seeks to honor President Carter’s enduring dedication to giving back while contributing to a cause that addresses a critical need: affordable housing.
